Moleskine Notebooks At The Movies

I’m not really a Moleskine guy, but I am a movie guy so I perked right up when I saw a post about Star Wars on Moleskinerie, the blog of the notebook maker.

It was a recap of a brief Twitter exchange between Rian Johnson, director of the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII, and Ty Leisher, a fan and web series director.

Leisher wanted to know if Johnson wrote in Moleskines and the director responded by tweeting a picture of a bunch of dated notebooks. Presumably, they contained some Star Wars secrets fans would kill for.

Turns out, Moleskine has a history with the movies.

Directors Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich), Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas), and John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink) all used them.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been photographed carrying them. Ann Hathaway sported one in “The Devil Wears Prada.” And they show up at film festivals around the country, including the Austin Film Festival which sells a custom edition Moleskine with its logo on the cover.

For movie fans, Moleskine makes the Film Journal which people use to keep track of the movies they’ve seen and their impressions of them There’s even a Moleskine Film Journal Tumblr.

Since I’m into movies, I like all that.  I just wished I liked the notebooks more.
