When given a choice I will usually choose to write with a medium point. That said I do like to break free from routine & show my spontaneous side from time to time, so here is my take on the Rotring Tikky Rollerpoint.
I am testing the extra fine tip in black, it is also available with just a fine tip & also comes in blue & red ink.
Rotring state that the free ink technology, which is regulated for changes in temperature & pressure has the advantage of being able to use 100% of the ink. Because it produces a controlled flow to the paper it also results in a consistent line quality whilst ensuring a smooth writing experience.
So far so good, I can’t vouch for the ink usage as I’ve not got around to completing my memoirs yet, but the pen does glide across the page with ease. Even though it is finer than I prefer my writing does not feel at all scratchy.
Rotring were renowned for their technical drawing pens, however, the extensive distribution of Computer Aided Design in the late 80’s/early 90’s led to their decline. They were forced to change course & started to concentrate on graphic pens, markers & their range of pencils.
The Company was aquired by global giant Newell Rubbermaid in 1999 & the Tikky range received a makeover in 2008.
Now back to the rotring Tikky Rollerpoint EF & its performance, I was able to make my writing really small, I’m sure it would be useful if you need to write notes in margins or mark papers. There were no smudges & even after pauses no blots appeared on the paper. When writing I don’t tend to change the angle of my pens, when I did so the only thing that altered was the appearance of my writing, the ink flow remained constant & smooth. I like the fact that the cap snaps on tightly & the clip is long & sturdy, ensuring it doesn’t fall off my notepad in transit.
If you like a fine tipped pen or need to reduce the size of your writing for any reason this pen is worth a try.
